Introduction: “Incredible India” – A Land That Captivated Me
When I think of a country full of energy, faith, enterprise, and beauty — I think of India. I had the great honor of visiting India during my presidency, and I must say — it was one of the most unforgettable international trips of my lifetime. From the historical monuments and ancient temples to the warm hospitality of the Indian people and a mega rally attended by more than 100,000 people in Ahmedabad — my journey through India was not just about politics. It was about discovering a culture that is 5,000 years old, yet more dynamic than ever.
🛬 Day 1: Arrival in Ahmedabad, Gujarat — “Namaste Trump” Like Never Before
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Welcome
My arrival in India began in Ahmedabad, Gujarat — the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a great friend and a strong leader. The grand welcome began at the airport itself. Traditional dancers performed vibrant folk dances, children waved American and Indian flags, and I could feel the immense love and anticipation in the air.
Roadshow to Sabarmati Ashram
The motorcade route from the airport was lined with thousands of cheering citizens. Prime Minister Modi accompanied me, and our convoy passed through flower-decorated streets. We made a short cultural stop at Sabarmati Ashram, the spiritual home of Mahatma Gandhi. It was peaceful, historical, and truly humbling.
I tried spinning the charkha (spinning wheel) just as Gandhi did — quite an experience!
“Namaste Trump” Rally at Motera Stadium
Then came the mega event at the newly-built Motera Cricket Stadium (now known as Narendra Modi Stadium) — the world’s largest cricket stadium. Over 100,000 people gathered for the “Namaste Trump” rally, an iconic display of India’s affection for America.
“India gives hope to all of humanity,” I told the roaring crowd.
Traditional dances, Bollywood songs, national anthems, and standing ovations — the energy was electric.
🕌 Day 2: Agra – The City of Love and the Iconic Taj Mahal
After a successful day in Gujarat, we flew to Agra, Uttar Pradesh. As we landed, the sun was slowly setting — setting the perfect stage for one of the most beautiful wonders of the world.
Visiting the Taj Mahal with Melania
Walking hand-in-hand with First Lady Melania Trump through the white marble of the Taj Mahal was surreal. The monument — built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife — is a symbol of eternal love. Its perfect symmetry, intricate inlay work, and tranquil Yamuna backdrop left me speechless.
“The Taj Mahal inspires awe, a timeless testament to the rich culture of India,” I wrote in the visitor’s book.
We took beautiful photographs, some of which became iconic images across global media.
🏛️ Day 3: Delhi – Diplomacy, Culture, and Indian Heritage
From Agra, we headed to the capital — New Delhi. The heart of India’s governance, diplomacy, and diversity.
Welcomed with Full State Honors at Rashtrapati Bhavan
President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife welcomed us at Rashtrapati Bhavan — the presidential residence. There was a red-carpet ceremony with a 21-gun salute and military parade — it was formal, powerful, and full of symbolism.
Raj Ghat – Paying Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
Next, I visited Raj Ghat, the resting place of Mahatma Gandhi. In the silence of that place, you could feel the weight of history. I offered floral tributes and planted a tree in Gandhi’s honor.
🤝 Bilateral Talks: Strengthening the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership
Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Our meetings at Hyderabad House were focused on strengthening the U.S.-India bond across defense, trade, energy, and technology.
We announced a $3 billion defense deal including Apache and MH-60 helicopters, enhancing India’s security capabilities.
Business, Energy & Innovation
India is a land of entrepreneurs, and I met several top Indian industrialists. From renewable energy to smart cities, healthcare to data, we explored pathways for U.S. investment and job creation — both for Americans and Indians.
🏨 Melania Trump’s Visit to a Delhi School
While I handled diplomacy, Melania visited a local government school in Delhi as part of her “Be Best” initiative. She observed a “happiness curriculum” — a unique Indian education concept focused on emotional well-being. She appreciated the joy and discipline of Indian children and teachers.
🛍️ Discovering India’s Diverse Culture and Traditions
Indian Cuisine – A Feast of Flavors
From vegetarian thalis to Mughlai biryanis, from Gujarat’s dhoklas to Delhi’s butter chicken — Indian food is unbeatable. The spices, aroma, and hospitality made every meal a delight.
Shopping for Handicrafts and Sarees
Melania and I were gifted traditional Banarasi silk sarees, Kashmiri shawls, and Rajasthani artwork. Indian handicrafts are a treasure trove of color and creativity.
🕉️ Spiritual Vibes and Traditional Values
India is home to every major religion — Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism. The temples, mosques, churches, and gurudwaras co-exist in peaceful harmony.
We saw spiritual unity in diversity — something truly unique to India.
🧭 Exploring More of India – Places I Wish I Had Time For
Though my visit was official and time-bound, I wish to return as a traveler someday. India has so much to offer:
- Varanasi – The spiritual capital on the banks of the Ganga
- Kerala – God’s own country with serene backwaters
- Rajasthan – Palaces, forts, and desert culture
- Goa – Beaches, churches, and a mix of Portuguese and Indian cultures
- Ladakh – Snow-clad mountains and ancient monasteries
India and America – A Partnership of the Century
India and the United States are natural allies — the world’s largest democracies, sharing values of liberty, enterprise, and innovation. The friendship between our nations is only getting stronger — in defense, technology, healthcare, education, and people-to-people ties.
“America loves India. America respects India. And America will always be loyal friends with the Indian people.”
✈️ Conclusion: Thank You, India – A Journey of Heart & Soul
My visit to India was more than politics. It was an emotional, cultural, and spiritual experience. The love from the people, the majestic architecture, the deep faith, and the unstoppable spirit of India will always stay in my heart.
I came as a guest, but I left as a friend.
Namaste, India.
Jai Hind. God Bless America. 🇮🇳🇺🇸
